AN Edinburgh architect who found himself stranded 1600 miles from his bride-to-be amid the collapse of XL Airways was due to be married today after a mad dash to the altar.
Tens of thousands of passengers were left stranded after the tour operator went into administration on Friday.

Among them was 49-year-old Robert Chalmers, lead architect at the Thirlestane Road based Kenneth Reid architects, who was due to be married on the Greek island of Skopelos.

However, the collapse of XL looked set to leave fiance Rachel Farey, 45, business manager at ethical trading company One World Shop based at St John's Church on Princes Street, alone in Greece. Thankfully, the Civil Aviation Authority, forced to clear up the mess left by XL's collapse, was able to find Mr Chalmers an alternative flight out with Swiss Air.

He said: "It's fabulous – I'm so happy. The day started as a nightmare but I can finally relax. We spent £3000 on flights and thought we would probably have lost it all."

Does anyone have an address of a firm of city architects or ethical traders. I'm trying to develop a system where adverts can be slipped into good news stories and I feel sure these would be ideal businesses to use to illustrate how easy this could be.

#1 Hee-hee. I bet there's a service you can subscribe to where you can have your name/business inserted into a story about world affairs and out will pop an auto-generated news story that ends up in the Evening News. Kinda like those personalised fiary stories that you can get.
Next week: How the Lehman Brothers collapse affected A1 Central Heating Services (Seafield).

Quite frankly this is utter rubbish, as the Civil Aviation Authority wasn't letting anyone fly out to Greece - we had to fly via Switzerland in order to sneak behind their backs (as it were) and Robert & Rachel actually shelled out another £3000 to do so - far from a stress-free journey. Also, the wedding wasn't for another three nights after this, so it wasn't really a "mad dash". Please check your facts.

(And I agree, actually - total non-story, who even cares except the ones who were there?)
