Wiles hopes Pars land Old Firm meeting

SIMON WILES is dreaming of a date with the Old Firm after his first goal for Dunfermline helped knock St Mirren out of the Co-operative Insurance Cup.

The substitute lashed home from ten yards to seal a 2-0 win against the SPL team at East End Park last night.

Now the Englishman, who signed from Blackpool last month, would relish a quarter-final clash against Celtic or Rangers, who play Partick Thistle tonight.

"If we can get a lower team then it gives us a good chance of winning and getting into the semi-final," the 23-year-old said.

"But if we draw one of the big two, then that would be an unbelievable experience."

Wiles went on after 68 minutes and was delighted to notch his first goal since Boxing Day 2005. The winger smashed the ball in off the bar following a 74th-minute corner, five minutes after Graham Bayne's brilliant header found the top corner.

St Mirren left the field to jeers and cries of "What a load of rubbish" from their travelling fans.

And manager Gus MacPherson, who was without midfielder Andy Dorman because of a hamstring injury, did not argue.

"I totally understand and agree with them," he said. "The second half was extremely poor."
