RANGERS chairman David Murray was to collect an honour from the Queen today at an investiture ceremony in Edinburgh.
The steel tycoon was to receive a knighthood for his services to business. His portfolio of metals, mining, property and venture capital businesses have made him Scotland's fifth richest man, worth an estimated £750 million.

Around 80 people from across the spectrum of Scottish life, including author Alexander McCall Smith and arts impresario Richard Demarco were to join him in receiving honours from the monarch at Holyrood Palace.

An absolute joke that David Murray gets a Knighthood but they wouldn't award a knighthood to Jock Stein when he was alive or even posthumously, an absolute joke!

Perhaps somebody should FOI the info on why David Murray's knighthood was accepted while Jock Stein's was rejected?
(the FOI response on the latter can be found at http://www.nas.gov.uk/about/070629new.asp).

Stein was reportedly in line for a knighthood until the debacle that was the World Club Championship Game in Montevideo. After the sending off of 4 Celtic players the move to honour Stein was removed

perhaps his knighthood is for "services to busiess" like it says in the report

nothing to do with football

no 6, behaviour of his players? Celtic travelled to argentina to play in the world club championship and were spat at kicked off the field and violently provoked, in the 60's and 70's argentine football teams were some of the dirtiest football teams around, and celtic were subjected to some serious under hand tactics, now to say that Stein should shoulder the blame and be stripped of a knighthood because of that match is ridiculous the celtic players on the pitch that day took matters into their own hands when they fought back against the argentines, fact of the matter is Jock Stein's achievements with Celtic in 1967 should have been recognised with a knighthood, they were quick enough to hand them out to Alf Ramsey and Matt Busby!

....he actually wanted to be a knight, but he was told he didn't have a leg to stand on.

If no-one else reports this for being in very poor taste, I will.

Didn't the celtic chairman get the knighthood instead of Stein? I heard that Stein turned it down and so Kelly was given it.

How dare Celtic fans complain about Stein not being knighted. Their club sacked the man !
Murray was knoughted for sevives to business. a man who overcame the tragic loss of both legs to become a multi millionaire desrves some credit.
