Shallon Ronaldson, 31, a sales assistant from Carricknowe, lists her top five places to take the kids on a day out.
Edinburgh Zoo. It can be quite expensive, but it's a great day out and you can spend a whole day there.

Dynamic Earth. A very interesting way for the children to learn about the world, with lots of activities.

Museum of Childhood on the Royal Mile. Free admission and the kids always enjoy looking at the old toys. It's a nice day out.

Edinburgh Dungeons. The kids will love this one. It's a fun way for them to learn about history, with a few frights thrown in.

Ice skating, Murrayfield Ice Rink. Not terribly expensive and the family skate hours are great.
