Slam into the trams (well, it's been a little while) and reaction to car-burning neds and Jim Bowen at the Fringe
Online traffic is usually pretty one-way when it comes to the subject of the trams. Today's no exception. News that there will be, not just one-way traffic, but closures of sections of Leith Walk sparked a good deal of protestation.

I know that I am not in favour of this project, because I do not believe it is needed and there are more important transport issues to spend the money on in Scotland. But the more I read, the more I think that measures are being made up "on the hoof". Everything seems to be a surprise to Willie Gallagher, as if it's just been thought of. More evidence, if it were needed, that the planning is poor and that the deep divisions within the experts in traffic management run deeper than the public or the EN realise.
calum,

What happens when they want to divert the trams? Festival Cavalcade, fireworks, a building collapse, a fire or even roadworks?
Daft Old Git

If those working on this tram project worked day and night and did not take breaks every 5 minutes, as well as half days on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays, then this project would take less than half the time to do. Why don't we get foreigners to do this type of work! They will certainly be faster and work harder.

Mario thinks he has the answer ...

... then we would have to pay them overtime

More deaths on the A9 at the weekend. No money for that then, a road that really needs improving, a road that transports, goods, workers, families and tourists on a massive scale and is genuinely valuable over a great distance. Yet this vanity project (the trams] is out of control, and will only serve a miniscule population in a narrow area.

And from out of left field ...

Will it be okay to eat on the trams? Like a baked potato or a fish supper?
Joe Smith, Moscow

Off the record, you should be fine, Joe, but they'll draw the line at cooking. Which is what some of you were wishing on the mischievous young fellows who set fire to cars and post images of the blaze on the web.

If people want to set fire to cars then stand beside them, why can't we just let them? I'm sure Darwin would have a view on that sort of behaviour.

If any of them died would anyone in the general public shed a tear?
jjkiller

Hopefully one of them will be consumed in a ball of flames and that will end this craze for the summer

If they get burnt, guaranteed the poor wee mammies will be gunning for compensation.

Seriously though, if it's there on Bebo, look at the top friends, even if you can't work out whose page it is. It's not very difficult LBP.

The Fringe is on its way and Jim Bowen is one who will be appearing. This wasn't such super, smashin' great news for some of you

What a highlight of the arts, another kitsch-value ex quiz show star.

Still, Alex has booked his ticket (assuming the Fringe ticketing system is up and running) ...

Jim Bowen great guy and very funny to even the dullest person's ear.
