NORRIE HENDERSON, head of mortgages at Lloyds TSB Scotland, has become chairman of CML Scotland, the influential Scottish arm of the Council of Mortgage Lenders.
Mr Henderson, who has worked for Lloyds TSB Scotland in a variety of different roles for 33 years, said of his new role: "Mortgage lenders tend to be at the forefront of housing market innovations.

"I want to ensure that CML Scotland continues to
have an active engagement with the Scottish Executive and with all the relevant professional bodies, to ensure that we continue to improve and refine the Scottish housing market.

"Innovations such as the recent decision to introduce a variant of the Homebuy scheme, to improve the supply of low-cost home-ownership, are very helpful and we urge its early implementation."

Standard Life has strengthened its corporate pensions team with the appointment of Ian Buchan as national development manager (corporate pensions).

Reporting directly to Tim Banks, head of business development (corporate pensions), Mr Buchan will be responsible for the development of the Standard Life corporate pensions brand and strengthening the company’s profile in the corporate pensions market.

In addition to brand development, he will play an important role in developing new and existing business opportunities.

Prior to his new appointment, Mr Buchan was head of business development at DC Solutions, the third party division of Royal London, where he was part of the senior management team and had responsibility for business development and marketing.

He also has more than 15 years’ experience working in two leading consulting actuarial firms.

Commenting on this appointment, Mr Banks said: "With almost 20 years’ experience in the corporate pensions industry, Ian will be able to make an immediate impact to the team and his contribution to the future development of the corporate pensions business will be invaluable."

Global recruitment consultancy Beresford Blake Thomas (BBT) has announced the promotion of Barry Prost to regional manager for its Technical & Professional divisions across Scotland and Ireland.

Mr Prost, who has been with BBT for four years, worked formerly as the general manager for the consultancy’s technical and professional division in Ireland and Northern Ireland. One of the key tasks facing him in his new role will be building on the company’s success in each region and the opening of new recruitment offices in locations such as Cork in Ireland.

Based at the Edinburgh office of BBT, he will now have responsibility for the development and growth of the technical and professional recruitment service in the city as well as other locations across Scotland and Ireland.

Commenting on his promotion, Mr Prost said: "I’m thrilled to have been awarded this new role, and am looking forward to the new experiences and challenges that it will bring. The past few months have been an exciting time for BBT, with a number of new offices and divisions opening both across the UK and worldwide, and I’m delighted to be leading on the continuing growth of our business."

Napier University’s Faculty of Health & Life Sciences has appointed Dr Lawrie Elliott as Professor of the new Centre for Integrated Healthcare Research (CIHR). Professor Elliott is a key member of a team of researchers at the CIHR who will help to improve the health of the people of Scotland and who lead the way in healthcare research of international importance. He will drive forward a programme of research in the management of chronic health conditions.

The CIHR is a collaborative project funded by a £2.45 million grant from the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council, the Scottish Executive Health Department, NHS Scotland and the Chief Scientist Office and is a consortium involving Queen Margaret University College, University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian, NHS Borders and NHS Lanarkshire.

Previously, Prof Elliott was director of research and reader at the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Dundee University following a post as senior researcher in the Department of Public Health, Greater Glasgow Health Board.

Professor Peter Strike, Dean of the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, said: "Professor Elliott brings with him experience of public and mental health research both here and abroad and is a member of several government advisory bodies.

"I’m positive that Professor Elliott will be a credit to the CIHR and the University as a whole."
