SCOTTISH Widows Investment Partnership (Swip) has appointed David Keir as investment director for UK equities.
He will join the Edinburgh-based fund manager on January 5, assuming responsibility for retail funds. Swip said his appointment completes the recruitment drive to bring its UK equity team up to full strength with 14 fund managers. Other recent appoin
tments have included Peter Cockburn, Joel Marks and David Urch.

Mr Keir, a qualified chartered accountant, will join Swip from Edinburgh Fund Managers, where he holds the position of investment manager covering UK Equities.

UK equities head Robert Waugh said: "We now have a full complement of investment directors in our UK equity team who are all skilled analysts as well as fund managers. Swip’s investment process has an emphasis on company research - David’s skills and experience will be an invaluable addition to this process."

Construction management consultancy Currie & Brown has appointed Amey’s former group business relations director, Shonagh Hay, to the newly created role of group business relations director.

Ms Hay’s responsibility will be to drive business growth and integrate synergy between the UK and international offices.

Previously, Ms Hay was business development director at Carillion and Tarmac where her remit included developing in markets such as Hong Kong, the United States, the Philippines and Malaysia. She was also a member of the NHS task force launched by former Health Minister Alan Milburn.

Currie & Brown chairman Angus McLean said: "It’s a coup to welcome Shonagh on board as she has extensive blue-chip experience spanning both the private and public sector. She joins us at an exciting time in our development and her expertise will be instrumental in capitalising on our new markets."

Pixel Image, the computer-generated images and multimedia specialist for the commercial and residential property industry, has appointed Simon Smith as production manager.

Previously managing his own computer visualisation company in Glasgow for the last four years, Mr Smith’s role is to oversee the company’s highly skilled production team. He said: "I am delighted to be part of such a cutting-edge team and have watched joint directors, Stephen and Catriona Smith, build Pixel into a true market leader within this highly specialised field. I look forward to helping take the company forward by bringing my own expertise and experience to the mix in order to further build Pixel’s already strong reputation for helping clients to communicate their individual concepts to the highest standard possible."

Interactive University, the global e-learning company for Scottish further and higher education, has appointed Sally Jorjani as its publishing and production manager.

Ms Jorjani was previously at Adobe Systems Europe, where she was responsible for the co-ordination, quality, manufacture and release of Adobe’s software portfolio. She has also held similar positions for Aspects Software and Aldus Europe.

IU’s chief operating officer David Farquhar said: "The production of effective course literature both online and printed is integral to our success and a major contributory factor to the IU learning experience.

"Content must be of the highest quality and we won’t compromise on that. Sally’s appointment will ensure that our course material complements our proven learning technology and maximises the competitive advantage of the Scottish education sector.

"Part of Sally’s focus is on the delivery of premium quality global competitive content, as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible."

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (Icas) has appointed Karen Young as its new executive director for finance and support services.

Ms Young joins the institute from Newsquest, where she was commercial and operations director of the Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times newspapers.

As well as heading up the institute’s finance department, she will also have responsibility for human resources, IT, printing and property.

Icas chief executive Ian Marrian said: "Karen brings with her a wealth of experience which the institute can draw upon. Her appointment adds to our new management board structure that we started to put in place earlier this year.

"This new structure complements the recently published Icas strategy, Fast Forward to 2010, aimed at creating a modern, dynamic professional body that is member- supported and member-supportive."
