Girl, 5, injured as skylight breaks during Fringe show

A FIVE-year-old girl is reported to have been taken to hospital after being covered in glass when a skylight broke during a Edinburgh Fringe show.
The girl was said to have been injured during a performance of the Little Mermaid at the C+3 Venue on Chambers Street just after noon.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a crash and the girl screaming. A Scottish Ambulance spokesman said a young child had been taken to the Sick Kids Hospital.

We all hope the wee girl makes a full recovery, our thoughts are with her.
This is a ridiculous accident that should not have taken place in a public building, I hope there will be a full investigation.

I was there. It wasn't a skylight breaking, it seemed to be a sheet of black metal or a flap falling from the lighting rig. The child was cut on the forehead. A rapid reponse medical vehicle was there within minutes and an ambulance followed after another 10 minutes or so.
I hope she recovers quickly, I dread to think what could have happened if it had been a whole spotlight or something heavier. I am still shaking just thinking about it 10 hours later.

If your "still shaking" I dread to think how the little girl is feeling and her parents.

We must however praise the "rapid response team" and ambulance service, for their caring efficiency.

I am the mother of the wee girl who is actually 2 1/2 years old. I just want to say thank you to everyone for their help after this traumatic experience,the ambulance crew, staff,the comments above and most of all the other mother who helped my daughter. I am so glad to say my wee girl is ok,she is very lucky. I just hope this starts an investigation into the safety of Edinburghs old buildings that are still being used for public use, this incident shouldnt have happened.
