COUNCIL officials have admitted it took them nearly four weeks to clear up some potentially hazardous asbestos scattered across a city park.
Retired heating engineer Brian Hayward, of Carrick Knowe Loan, reported to the council on October 17 that vandals had broken an asbestos flue pipe at the rear of the rugby club in Union Park, Carrick Knowe, but the mess wasn't cleared until November 14.

Council environmental and consumer services director, Mike Drewry, said: "The department regrets that the complaint was not initially transferred to the correct section."
