SCOTLAND'S Olympic medallists – including triple gold winner Chris Hoy – are to take part in a triumphant homecoming parade.
The Beijing heroes will ride in an open top bus down the Royal Mile after attending a reception at Edinburgh Castle.

Track cyclist Hoy, 32, was the first Briton for 100 years to win three golds at a single Olympics – and became Scotland's greatest Olympian in the process.

He had also won a gold at the Athens Games in 2004.

The welcome, organised by sportscotland and the Scottish Government, will begin with a press conference at Edinburgh Castle next Wednesday.

The sportsmen will be greeted there by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and sportscotland chairwoman Louise Martin.

The Olympians will then take part in a open-top bus parade beginning at Castle Esplanade, travelling down the Royal Mile and finishing at Holyrood Palace.

See a short Video of Chris Hoy's arguments to Edinburgh City Council over its plans to downsize and sell off Meadowbank including the Meadowbank Velodrome that was his platform to success.

Triple gold medallist Chris Hoy will be at the Castle and it is hoped
the other Scottish medallists, Katherine Grainger, Ross Edgar and David
Florence, will also be there. Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Louise Martin CBE, Chair of sportscotland will be there to congratulate them on behalf of the nation.

Clearly don't want too many of the folk that work during the day to pay their council tax or keen kids who will be at school to come along.
Still it means the politicians will home in time to see them selfs patting Chris on the back on the tea time news.....

Perhaps they will have a moment to reflect on their decision to demolish the velodrome and down size the rest of the Meadowbank complex.

Just to remind them what he said :

Elite sport cannot stand alone without local facilities giving kids the chance to get into the sport in the first place. I really hope Edinburgh is going to continue to produce world champion cyclists in the future but we cannot do this without a local facility. - Chris Hoy.

That schedule is ridiculous! I was really hoping to take my two daughters to see all the medallists, and they'll be in school then. Are there any plans for a "sensible" time of parade that people who work or are in school can actually get to?

How about firing the castle gun three times as a wee treat. OK, I know it's silly, but why not?

Given Chris Hoys comments and badmouthing of his native country when asked about the possibility of a Scottish Olympic team I for one will not be going to watch this parade. Give him a knighthood, Lord Hoy Hoy would be a suitable title.

What Chris Hoy said was:
"The [Scottish] government would have to invest serious money in sport before they could start thinking of having their own team in the Olympics."

To criticise the Sports Minister, Stewart Maxwell, is not to badmouth your country. Maxwell is calling for a Scottish Olympic team but is absolutely unwilling to fund the facilities necessary to make that viable.

Maxwell snubbed a Save Meadowbank meeting recently, and doesn't want to hear about the devastating impact on grassroots and elite sports in Edinburgh and beyond if Edinburgh Council get away with downsizing and selling off Meadowbank Sports Centre including the Velodrome.

We too are disappointed about the timings of this schedule. We were planning to visit as a family to welcome back the sporting hero's and I cannot believe that this couldn't even be scheduled for after school (at least). They will not get the full scottish welcome they fully deserve which is a real pity.

I am so disappointed that me and my brother Archie can't go and cheer on Chris Hoy tomorrow as we will be at school. We have been watching all of the olympics and felt so proud when chris hoy won 3 gold medals. Im sure most of Edinburgh would have come out to cheer if it had been a later time.

I agree with all on the site, what a shame it is being held on a week day. Why couldn't it have been arranged for Saturday or in the early evening? Most people will either be at work or at school and its a shame. However, will hopefully be able to see it on the evening news and will probably get a better view there anyway.

yes - Well done to the Olympians, but not the organisers of this event. Typical of Edinburgh officials to hold this when most residents and schoolchildren cannot attend - oh well, something else for the tourists!! Hope they remember to host a similar event once the Paralymians return!

Again, it's typically bloody Scottish that they arrange this when nobody can make it.
We wanted to make this a family affair, trip over to Edinburgh (Surely it'll be after school we thought) celebrate this success, get a meal and go home.
Nope let's do it mid afternoon, when the schools are in and everybody is working.
Alec Salmond will be able to blame the english for this I suppose.
It's interesting that the timing for this was kept quiet until quite literally the last minute.

Between this and closing the velodrome, WELL DONE EDC
