Question mark over city IT jobs as firm pulls plug on 500 staff

AN IT services group with an office in the Capital has revealed plans to cut 500 jobs in the UK.
Logica chief executive Andy Green outlined a revamp strategy that will see 1300 jobs cut globally – three per cent of the group's workforce – and save £80 million a year. The group will more than double its offshore staff numbers from 3450 to 8000 by the end of next year.

In the UK, workers in finance and human resources are set to be affected by the job reductions. Logica added some of its 30 UK offices would close. The group has its headquarters in London but has a regional base in George Street. A Logica spokeswoman said it was too early to confirm which UK offices would close.

Logica has grown through a series of mergers and acquisitions in recent years, starting with the takeover and merger with rival CMG in the Netherlands in 2002.

It has already shed a number of jobs following the deals, but said today there was still duplication of roles in many operations.

another far east call centre,
hours to get through
hours listening to your call is most valuable
then the operator give you " sorry sir I can't understand you"

More jobs abroad, which means less money circulating to support the British Economy

presumably you've never called one of these off shore call centres,

try Dell,
UK based Sales,
off shore technical support, 0/10 for customer support

Tiscali's email support is the same. pretty poor responses to even simple questions.

One of the Big UK banks has their Credit Card support off shore , same problem.

And how would customers contact these people just now.

A Weegie, hopefully you never or someone you know gets a call into the bosses office to get told that due to cost cutting (increasing profit) that the job will be getting done in the far East.
