SAINBURY'S is pioneering a "top ten" display in their wine aisles following research which found the majority of wine drinkers are still not confident about picking the right bottle.
"We hope this will help demystify wines and make shopping easier," it says.

Here's what some of the other supermarkets have to offer.

Ring Bolt Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 (£8.19, Tesco) is a spicy, cherry and blackcurrant-laden Margaret River r
ed that shows just what Aussies can do with a grape. Beaut.

Tesco's Finest Block 7A Murray Darling 2007 Viognier (£7.19, Tesco) is a gallumphing great mouthful of viognier fruit that will take on roast park, poultry or mild, soft cheeses.

Chateau La Raze Beauvallet Cru Bourgeois 2005 Medoc (£8.99, Tesco) is a silver medal-winning claret with everything in it – from wet floor boards to sprightly cassis. Steaks.

Grant Burge Barossa Vines Shiraz Viognier 2005 (£6.99, Oddbins) showers the senses with pepper and leather and a 14 per cent blast of alcohol. Velvety smooth.

Villa Maria Private Bin Gewurztraminer 2007 (£8.49, Waitrose) is the perfect foil for Thai or Chinese grub with its floral and aromatic Turkish delight aromas. Off-dry.

Vin de Pays de L'Herault 2006 (£3.39, Lidl) is a smooth Frenchie that's destined to find its way into many a student flop. Dry.

WINE OF THE WEEK
Les Hauts de Paviere Hermitage 2003 (£18.99, Morrisons) is one of those special occasion reds that's an absolute joy – chocolate-edged, with splurges of cherry, cough linctus and plum. It's as cosseting as a warmed bathrobe.

BARGAIN OF THE WEEK
If you don't find aromas of sweet oak, dark plums, prunes, chocolate and blackcurrant jam in Yali Reserve 2005 Cabernet

Sauvignon (£6.49, Majestic) I suggest your nose is blocked! A pungent Chilean to match grilled red meats.
