Hidden Gems: Ecco Vino
WITH its neo-Italian decor and a refreshingly relaxed atmosphere, Ecco Vino is always bustling. From those enjoying a glass of wine to those catching up over a selection of antipasti, the intimate Cockburn Street wine bar is a popular hangout with a distinctly continental feel.
Throughout the intimate space, shelves line the walls, replete with wine bottles, and the extensive cellar is brimming with wine – more than 50 different varieties to be precise.
New World wines as well as the old feature in the collection, and there's a myriad of unusual and affordably priced vintages. Prices start at just £3.15 for a glass.
Then there is the food. An earthy menu of vibrant pasta dishes (around £8.50), filling salads (around £8.50) and daily specials of meals such as risotto soak up the alcohol, while marinated olives (£3.75), breads served with balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil (£3.95), and antipasto (£12.95) are always on offer for those who simply want to graze.
Ecco Vino is the antithesis of everything George Street stands for. Getting a table is hard, but worth the wait.
