HIBS boss John Collins today put Thierry Gathuessi on standby for his first SPL match in almost six weeks after all but ruling David Murphy out of tomorrow's clash with relegation-threatened Gretna.
Collins had believed Murphy would be ready for the trip to Fir Park despite picking up a rib injury as he was sent crashing to the ground by Hearts striker Calum Elliot in the dying seconds of last Sunday's derby.

Although the classy left-back was unable to train earlier in the week he rejoined the squad on Wednesday and completed that day's work-out without any apparent problems.

However, Murphy was forced to drop out of yesterday's training session complaining of ongoing pain and today Collins admitted it doesn't look as if he'll recover over the next 24 hours.

Collins said: "It was a bit of a surprise but when David started twisting and turning yesterday he felt it again. Rib injuries are one of the most painful things you can get and at the moment he is struggling."

Like all SPL sides, Hibs will have a two-week break following tomorrow's match due to Scotland's Euro 2008 showdown with Italy but even so Collins insisted he wouldn't be tempted to take any risks with Murphy, preferring instead to ensure he is 100 per cent fit for the visit of Dundee United in a fortnight's time.

And, rather than move Lewis Stevenson, who showed he has returned to top form during the 1-1 draw with Hearts, back, Collins is likely to turn to Cameroon international Gathuessi, who hasn't featured for the top team since the 4-1 win over Kilmarnock at the end of September.

Collins said: "Thierry has been very unlucky not to have been in the side in recent weeks because he has done very well. I thought he was man of the match in our reserve game against St Mirren in midweek even although we lost the game.

"He's been playing regularly throughout the period he hasn't been in the first team so there's no worries over his match fitness."

Collins was also delighted to see Scotland Under-21 midfielder Stevenson begin to return to form. He said: "It's come as no surprise to me as I said it would happen.

"Even so, it's good to see him back to his old self, driving with the ball, looking powerful."

Although virtually the length of the SPL table separates Hibs from Gretna, Collins warned the game at Park won't be as straight forward as many Easter Road fans may imagine.

The fact Davie Irons' side will now have settled into their temporary home, allied to their recent victory over Dundee United, a close encounter with Celtic and the fright they gave Hibs earlier in the season when they took a 2-0 lead before losing 4-2, will all be features of Collins' pre-match team talk.

He said: "Without a doubt having to play their home matches at Fir Park will have been a handicap for them. I'd imagine every match would seem like an away game initially, perhaps the first four or five.

"But now they will have settled in and got used to playing there. They gave us a fright last time we met which is a lesson for us all and we don't want to give anyone that sort of advantage again.

"The important thing is that we start the match as we did the derby - sharp, bright and straight into the flow of the game."

stevenson back to his normal self im a hibs fan and i have 2 say i dnt like stevenson he frustrates me he doesnt shoot he doesnt tackle he doesnt dribble he doesnt attack he doesnt defend all he does is gets ball of murphy then plays it 2 sum1 under pressure he would b better at left back for when murphy leaves

why does collins play bozzy kerr stevenson and morais in midfield we play with no right midfielder as kerr cant run 2 save himself we have nothing attacking dwn the right mid thts why thierry should b at right back he attacks put mcann in midfield and stevenson out but tht wil never happen as collins obviously favours them 2 as they r his yes robot men thts why shiels doesnt get a game cause he doesnt go by collins way of playing

Beuzy won't be signing a new deal, Hibs have offered peanuts - WBA, Norwich look likely to offer him the right money. But I wouldn't put it past WGS to pinch him and Murphy in January.

Wee team, wee wages - nae ambition.

#1 You may be a Hibee4life but I'll tell you what; I'll stick with John Collins/ Tommy Craig when it comes to tactics. When eedjits come on here with posts which criticise tactics I'm always tempted to ask what their own pedigree is. Have you got your coaching badges? I suspect not, so I suggest you engage brain and ask yourself; who in the world would listen to your views before those of J.C./T.C.

A proper team? Its surely to early to be on drugs. A team that get its team sheet by fax. The spokesperson/coach/whatever he is cant even make a subsitution during the match. An overdraft of 40M and a promised stand that is never getting built.

Your team is sitting 8th and is closer to 2nd bottom than Hibs in the League.

Watch Hearts? Are right!!

Unless Hibs are offered at least £2m each for Boozy and Murphy there is no way they will let them go in January.

Stevenson is a good wee player, never going to be world class but will hold his own in the SPL.

no but there is a difference between having an opinion and INFORMED opinion something which the scumbos would never have.
Boozy and Murph leaving the club in January? No.
They may well leave the club at some point for a veru handsome profit in a year or two.
#2 wee team, big debt, nae chance

#7 £2million for Boozy.

Jesus christ, it was only a year ago that you had Scott Brown and Kevin Thomson, a time when you all thought Boozy was crap.

Now they've gone he's suddenly worth £2 million ,lucky if you get £500,000 for him.

Murphy ( I got roasted by Driver) is a good footballer, just not a good defender. £1 million tops.

Roasted by driver...Dont make me laugh

Once he went past him and guess what it landed at his right foot(yes his standing leg)..
Law of averages he would have to beat him once or twice.
Have a look at the table youll see who the big team are.
Now run along.....(and take driver wi yae)

15

yoyo,

#12 Murphy roasted by Driver, are you off your head. He skinned Murphy once in the game, after which Murphy stuck close to him and pretty much snuffed him out. As for Boozy, he was poor last season maily as a result of his injuries. This season you'll not find anyone who's seen him play say he's been anything other than fantastic. Had Stewart chasing shadows. He'll be a big loss.

16

Ghengis McCann,

09/11/2007 15:32:50

Amazing how "Driver actually beat Murphy once" has been mythologised by the deluded believers into "Driver roasted Murphy".

A scuffed point against the Wee Team, you'd think they'd won the CL. Clutching at straws and trying to salvage anything at all from what has been a shambles of a season so far at Gorski Park.

Hibs' set-up isn't perfect, but at least we're not managed by a Fax machine.

both murphy and beuzelin are over rated, boozy couldnt tackle a fish supper and his passing is rank, murphy is overweight and slow all he has in his favour is a decent left foot.
these players are at there peak and althogh murphy is quite young there is nothing more to come from him!

Although that isn't saying too much, Hibs is not the team with the problems.

No they are not overated they are hibs' two best players and, incase you didn't notice, hibs are 3rd in the league.
Beuzelin is one the best passers in the spl (eg his pass for fletcher in the derby) and he would be a massive loss. Hiibs really need to try and hold on to him as he is irreplacable.
As for Murphy being slow and overweight, that is just a lot of pish i'm afraid. Most consistent left back in Scotland over the last 3 years.

#25 Livi Hibee - good man! that was one of the best links I've read in ages...

OK if you're going to mouth off, you have to be prepared for instant karma, probably the fan is a bit of an attention seeker and thought that shouting negative abuse during a RESERVE match was a good way to be the star attraction, instead of just watching the game.

JC was well within his rights to talk to the supporter; but, if he handled it the right way (i.e. by treating the fan with respect) he would have been a lot better thought off. The way he flew off the handle sounded like the fan caught the brunt of pent up aggression OR is JC just a psycho?

Such a tantrum fits in with the profile of a manager that inspired a revolt from nearly the entire first team (all the players couldn't have been off their chump?).

A good mate from high school, coaches at senior amateur level and he was in charge of his team playing against hibs preseason in a closed door match a couple of years ago. My pal always was quite loud, but not aggressive, just a loud - usually really funny...anyway (his team got beat 6-0) and the ref went to caution him for his mighty gob:

when the ref asked his name he said 'its what your name should be....Dick Puller'. The Hibs crew in the dugout burst out laughing and the ref sent my mate to the stand AND he was fined £250!!!

Maybe JC should be getting his cheque book out for his tirade?

#30, csf1874, as usual you have excelled yourself by mangling the English language to try and make some point about season tickets and Europe (i think).
It is probably for the best that you know It is not Hibs fault that Hearts fans are gullible enough to shell out theitr hard earned wages on watching Hoofball every week, and it is certainly not our fault or even of any interest to us the numbers of imbeciles that choose to throw away their money by paying for a place to snooze on Saturday afternoons in the less desirable suburb of Gorgie.
THank you for your continued interest in Hibernian Football club, if the club ever decides to employ a Jakie as a mascot I'm sure you will be at the top of a very short list for hte job.
Alternatively you could always try removing your head from your rear end as you will never get a sun tan up there pal...

Re #1

Actually, I agree with most of what you say. Stevenson is completely overrated, he doesn't create anything and never scores. Maybe he's the new Kevin Thomson. Hope so. Rangers can give us £2M for him if they want.

As for Collins' tactics, he's done pretty well this season, but why take Curier off at the same time as he brings wingers on? Surely Curier is the best player to have in the middle when O'Brien or Zemmama are putting crosses in.

32

mark23,

10/11/2007 04:10:55

Have to disagree with everyone bad mouthing little Lewis Stevenson.
He only broke into the 1st team towards the end of last season, he's only 20, he's been up and down form wise(same as any young player) but he's a 100% commitment with a great engine who in the next 2 or 3 years is going to become a very good well established player at Hibs no doubt about it!

# 25
Glad you were able to make your point. It's a pity a fan had to take the crazy tirade from a person who is supposed to be the most respected man at a fans club. You did well holding your piece (though you were probably in shock and were embarrassed) as if you had taken things further you would have been on a loser.
A court date and shunned by your fellow fans would have ensued that is for sure. Collin's publicity allies and the Evening News would have seen to that.
A good choice on this occassion - bighting your tongue. I have heard that Collin's persona that is "given" to the telly interviews is purely "Mask of Fu Man Chu" like.

#25 Assuming story is all correct, JC 's behavior is abysmal.

The only thing that does not sit right about the story told from supporter's perspective is that he had no reaction at all to finding himself so close to JC? Were it me, I would have like "Hi JC nice to meet you" and all that, or is it so common place to have access to Hibs and their management?

The supporter, the way it was told, took it for granted that JC was there, it just sounds a bit odd.
