CAPITAL cyclist Evan Oliphant produced a solid performance to finish in 22nd place at the East Midlands Classic.
The 26-year -old Plowman Craven rider missed out on the crucial break in the 98-mile event and ended the day three minutes and eight seconds down on the winner, Ciaran Power of Ireland.
North of the Border, Arthur Doyle won the Jason MacIntyre Mem
orial Ten-Mile Time Trial in Fort William when he clocked 20 minutes 49 seconds.
Doyle was riding for Dooleys Cycles Racing Team, which MacIntyre had joined this season, and another team-mate, Gary Robson, was runner-up in 21:12, while Mark Atkinson (Sandy Wallace Cycles) who was a long time colleague of MacIntyre at Velo Ecosse, took third place a further nine seconds down.
Meanwhile, Callum Wilkinson of the Capital-based Bicycleworks team chalked up an impressive win in the David Campbell Memorial Road Race in Fife.
Wilkinson and another Lothians rider, Alex Coutts, escaped from a strong field on the penultimate lap and built a sizeable lead. However, Coutts had the misfortune to suffer a puncture, leaving Wilkinson to ride the final 30 miles of the 82-mile event on his own and come home four minutes and 38 seconds clear of James McCallum (Powman Craven).
Elsewhere, Claire Thomas of the Edinburgh RC women's squad took sealed a tenth place finish in the first round of the Road Race Series in Cheshire.
