CAPITAL cyclist Bruce Croall bids to extend his winning run when the opening session of the National Track Championships takes place at Meadowbank Velodrome tonight (first event 7.30pm).
The 30-year-old City of Edinburgh rider has been in sparkling form over recent weeks and goes into the kilometre time trial with his confidence high.

The winner for the last two seasons, he is likely to face a tough test from riders at both ends
of the age spectrum.

Inverness veteran Ivor Reid was silver medallist last season and is keen to go one better, while Dundee teenager Kevin Stewart will be keen to chalk up a podium finish and could surprise the more experienced men.

Meanwhile, Kate Cullen (Braveheart Racing Team) has returned from another successful sojourn on the Continent where she performed well in the Tour de Feminin stage race in the Czech Republic and had a second place finish at a criterium in Holland.

The Commonwealth medallist bids for the first half of a potential title double in tonight's 500 metres time trial, with Daisy Sherwood (City of Edinburgh) and the fast-improving Alison Chisholm (Edinburgh RC) likely to prove her toughest opposition.

A healthy entry of 16 riders has been received for the youths 500 metres time trial, with the friendly rivalry between Edinburgh Racers kids club and their Dundee counterparts, Discovery Juniors, a key feature.

The other title up for grabs tonight is the junior pursuit, with Dean Martin and Aaron Murray of the Capital outfit, Equipe Velo Ecosse, among the contenders.

The second session of the championships, starting at 10.30 tomorrow morning, will see titles decided in the senior and junior sprints, and the men's and women's pursuit events. A busy schedule on Sunday gets underway at 10am. Admission is free.
