With pub visits, outdoor events and larger social gatherings still being a novelty for most, Edinburgh residents will be pleased to hear the weather forecast for the holiday weekend ahead is dry with sunny spells.

According to the Met Office, the weekend will begin cloudy on Saturday with temperatures reaching 16C by the afternoon and a 10 per cent chance of rain.

By Sunday, temperatures will rise to highs of 19C from about 1pm and sunny intervals are forecast for the afternoon with clear skies expected in the early evening.

Monday will see even warmer weather with temperatures expected to rise to 20C by mid afternoon. Clear skies are forecast for the morning with some cloud coverage expected to drift in from about 1pm in the afternoon.

What are the current Covid-19 restrictions in Edinburgh?

All mainland council areas - with the exception of Glasgow - have moved to level two. Most islands have moved straight to level one.

In level two, people are allowed to meet up inside others' homes in groups of up to six people from up to three different households - and they can stay overnight.

Alcohol can be served in pubs or restaurants to groups of up to six adults from up to three different households, and premises can stay open until 10.30pm.
