Edinburgh crime: Alpaca and sheep killed in suspected dog attack at farm in Currie

An alpaca and a sheep were found dead on a farm in Edinburgh, after a suspected dog attack.

Police were called to a farm in Kirkgate, Currie, shortly before 6pm on Saturday (October 15), after the dead bodies of the animals were discovered. Officers believe a dog may be responsible for the deaths.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 5.55 pm on Saturday, 15 October 2022, a report was made to police that an alpaca had been killed in what was believed to be a dog attack at a farm in Kirkgate, Currie, Edinburgh. Enquiries into that, and the death of a sheep on the same farm, are continuing."

New legislation was passed last year, which means dog owners responsible for livestock worrying can face a fine of up to £40,000 or 12 months imprisonment. Livestock worrying is a problem in rural communities across Scotland, with police in Edinburgh and the Lothians issuing repeated appeals for owners to keep their dogs on leads.
